The rural commune Meinhard counts approx. 6,000 inhabitants. The seven parts of the town (Grebendorf, Neuerode, Hotzelrode, Mothenrode, Jestadt, Schwebda and Frieda) are situated picturesquely in the low-lying areas of the Werra up to the slopes of the range of hills Meinhard (491m) in the Hessian Switzerland.
In the immediate vicinity of the district’s chief town Eschwege, the leisure and recreation centre of the rural district Werra-Meißner is expecting your visit at Grebendorf: The campsite with mobile home sites, the Lake Meinhard with bathing beach, huge chute and sunbathing lawn, a pedalo rental station, windsurfing possibilities, fishing pond, playground, beach volleyball, crazy golf, sauna, skittle alley and gastronomy will take care for your “holiday well-being”. Situated directly at the Werratal cycle track, you can immediately start your cycling tour there.
The European Academy also has its domicile at Grebendorf. Participation in conferences and learning will be easy for you with that commanding view into the Werratal!
Those who want to relax dive into the unique flora and fauna of the Hessian Switzerland, go for a hike on the Hessian extra tour, the P4, having been awarded the Deutsches Wandersiegel (German hiker’s seal), and enjoy best views.
In the local heritage museum at Meinhard, in the part of the town Schwebda, died-out lines of work come back to life
